Aviva Premiership Rugby Football Union club the London Irish have confirmed the signing of Scotland international Sean Maitland from Scottish Top 12 side the Glasgow Warriors for the upcoming season.
The 26 year old is an extremely player and can play either on wing or t full back and will be a welcome addition to the Exiles squad that has been bracing itself for the departure of Tom Homer at the end of the season.
Born in New Zealand, Maitland already has 15 caps to his name for Scotland and he was also a part of the British and Irish Lions team that went on a tour of Australia in 2013. Speaking on his move to the club, Maitland said that the club has made it clear that it is striving to return of the pile both at home and in Europe and he is looking forward to being a part of the London Irish side as he chases his dream for titles.
The club announced earlier that New Zealand international prop Ben Franks would also be making his move to the club at the end of the season.
Bob Casey, the club’s operations director, who has also been handling the playing side of affairs since the departure of long time Director of Rugby Brian Smith, said that Sean Maitland is a player who has proved his mettle both for the Glasgow Warriors and at the international stage.
He went on to add that at 26, he is at the right age and also has a great strength of character for someone so young and he wants to be a part of the rebuilding process at the London Irish. Casey added that his signing proves that the club is intent on returning to winning ways and compete on all fronts as well.
